Dutch (Nederlands) is a West Germanic language spoken by over 22 million people natively and over 5 million people as a second language. Most native speakers live in the Netherlands and Belgium with smaller speech communities in parts of France, Germany and former Dutch colonies. It is closely related to neighboring West Germanic languages, especially Low German, West Middle German, and to a lesser extent West Frisian. There are about 3 million native Lithuanian speakers in Lithuania and about 170,000 abroad. Lithuanian is a Baltic language, closely related to Latvian, although they are not mutually intelligible. The Lithuanian language is believed to be the most conservative living Indo-European language, retaining many features of Proto Indo-European now lost in other Indo-European languages.
